Published on: June 8, 2010

Don’t miss the next show from Winder-Barrow Community Theatre. “Hallelujah Girls” is a hilarious comedy about a group of women who decide to shake up their lives. This Southern comedy takes place in SPA-DEE-DAH!, a day spa located in an abandoned church in Eden Falls, GA. Sugar Lee, their high-spirited, determined leader, has her hands full keeping the women motivated. Carlene’s given up on romance, and Nita’s a nervous wreck from running interference between her problematic son and his probation officer. Mavis’ marriage is so stagnant she’s wondering how she can fake her own death while sweet, simple Crystal entertains them all singing Christmas carols with her own hilarious lyrics. The comic tension mounts when a sexy ex-boyfriend shows up unexpectedly. Don’t miss this summer treat that will run for one weekend only. Show dates are June 25 & 26 at 7:30 pm and June 27 at 3:00 pm. Tickets for all shows are only $10 per person.

As a special treat, the Touch of Eden day spa in Winder has donated a gift certificate for an hour massage and a full facial valued at $125.00. The gift certificate will be raffled off at the show, and tickets are only $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. You do not have to be present to win so be sure to buy plenty of tickets. They can be purchased now from each WBCT member or at Pam Veader’s State Farm Office. Each person attending the show will also receive a $10 coupon to the Touch of Eden Spa. Many thanks go to the Spa for their generous donation of these items. All proceeds of the raffle will go towards the production costs of the WBCT shows.

In July WBCT will present their Children’s PLAYhouse production of “Wizard of Oz”. This beloved story is based on the book by Frank Baum, but some things are different from the movie version. Come out and join the fun as Dorothy, Toto, and the entire “Wizard of Oz” cast bring some excitement to July. Show dates are for one weekend only and are Friday, July 23 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, July 24 at 11:00 am and 7:30 pm. Tickets are $5.00 for children 12 and under and $10 for anybody age 13 and older.

The final show of the summer is “Bye Bye Birdie”, a musical you will enjoy. This musical satire takes place in 1958 and is centered around an Elvis Presley type rock and roll superstar named Conrad Birdie. Conrad has been drafted into the army so his agent, Albert Peterson, and his secretary, Rose Alvarez, plan a huge farewell performance for Birdie on the Ed Sullivan show. The show is to end with a kiss being bestowed on a lucky girl from Birdie’s fan club. The excitement begins as Birdie arrives in the town of Sweet Apple to meet the girl and her family. This show is the third show in the WBCT Main Stage Season and will be presented over two weekends from August 6 to August 15. Tickets are $10 in advance for seniors (age 55 and older), students and teachers and $12.50 in advance for adults. Tickets are higher at the door so be sure to purchase your tickets early.

See all three of these shows for the low cost of only $25.00 when you take part in the WBCT 3-Fer Summer Special. You get three “fer” the price. In order to qualify for the summer special, tickets must be purchased in advance before 5:00 pm on June 25th. Tickets for all shows and the Summer Special are now available at Winder City Hall (770-867-3106 – credit card) and at Pam Veader’s State Farm Insurance Office at 41 S Center Street in Winder (770-867-1679 – cash/checks).
